When I Grow Up
By Stacy James

When I grow up, I want to be me
A woman of wonder, a woman of dreams
A woman who sees all the things that can be
And smiles at a future of possibility. . .
When I grow up, I want to believe
That anything is possible for those who achieve;
Who work hard, but know that the one thing they need
Is God, and in His way and time, they'll succeed!
When I grow up, I want to have friends
Who will be my cheerleaders and help meet my ends
Who still help me grow in my struggles and trials;
Friends who will be there in tears and in smiles.
When I grow up, I still want to travel,
Explore and discover this planet of gravel
Of sand and of sea, of mountains and beach
I still want to learn, and I still want to teach!
I want to smell roses and freshly cut grass
I want to wave "hi" when the people I pass
On the sidewalk, or maybe a race that I'm racing;
When I grow up, I want to keep living!
When I grow up I still want to be
A brighter and livelier version of me!
I still want to sing, and I still want to dance;
I still want the wonder and joy of romance!
I still want to love the creation of God,
And gaze in wide wonder at all he has made.
I want to laugh louder, I want to smile brighter
I pray that old age doesn't make me a miser.
For every day and each year of our lives
Should be better and greater as we grow in Christ
And as we look forward to meeting our Maker
The thought of his heaven should be greater and greater
I don't want to look back and wish for what was,
For the best, I believe, is still yet to come!
So I'll live every day serving both God and man
I'll live out my God-given role that He planned
And when the day comes for my time to go up
I'll have lived every day with purpose and love.
